Family History Fun – Every Wonder Where You Got Your Good Looks?
If you missed Family Discovery Day at RootsTech, never fear. There are video downloads available for many of the sessions held at this one-of-a-kind Family History Conference.
Here’s a fun activity that was introduced during RootsTech 2018 Family Discovery Day: Use the FamilySearch app or website to figure out which ancestors in your family line look most like you.
Start by opening a browser and typing in www.familysearch.org/discovery
Here’s what I discovered:
I look 69% like my paternal Grandmother Marie. The next closest match is a great-grandfather on my mother’s side of the family. We look 52% similar according to the FamilySearch photo recognition algorithm. It must be the bangs.
More than Just a Family Resemblance
What’s fun about this part of the app or website is that you can also write and share a story or memory about this ancestor. This would make a terrific family home evening or Sabbath Day activity. All of us are curious about where we got our good looks, whose nose looks most like ours and where we got our red hair or brown eyes. What other characteristics or personality traits have you inherited besides the shape of your ears and the color of your hair?
